The arrival of Call of Duty‘s Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox Game Pass was supposed to be a massive boost for the game’s multiplayer community. Unfortunately, it has also led to a spike in cheaters, as reported by several media outlets, including Call of Duty specialist CharlieIntel.
These hacks are generally used by PC players, but those who are playing on PC via Xbox Game Pass are identified as Xbox players in multiplayer lobbies. The official Call of Duty Updates account on X (formerly Twitter) acknowledged the problem and stated that a fix has been deployed.
“Ricochet Anti-Cheat resolved an issue with the detection system over the weekend, which resulted in a spike in cheater reports. For clarity, #TeamRICOCHET can detect the specific platform for all users, despite how they may appear in-game,” the announcement read.
Cheats Have Been Around for Ages, but Modern Warfare 3 Was Hit Hard This Weekend
According to the update, the anti-cheat system is now “capable of detecting the specific platform for all users, regardless of how they appear in the game.”
However, players are skeptical that the problem has been fully addressed, as indicated by feedback on the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 subreddit.
Players employ cheats to gain an advantage in the game, such as aimbots and wall hacks. Aimbots provide players with superhuman aiming abilities, whereas wall hacks allow them to see through walls to spot other players.
