The delay of the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong is due to an exclusivity agreement with Sony, according to an informed source cited by IGN. Contrary to circulating rumors, it is not due to technical issues.

An earlier Spanish leak had suggested that memory leak problems were delaying the game on Xbox, but this information has been debunked by the source. According to the source, the delay is linked to an exclusivity agreement between Sony and the developer, Game Science, though neither Sony nor Game Science has made this agreement public.

An Exclusive Agreement Delaying the Xbox Version of Black Myth: Wukong

The first delay rumors began in June when the Xbox Series X|S version disappeared from a trailer shown during the Summer Game Fest. At the time, Game Science stated that the Xbox version was still being optimized to meet quality standards, which sparked speculations about technical problems. However, a source has now confirmed that the real culprit is an exclusive agreement with Sony, kept under wraps until now.

Microsoft released a statement in June expressing their excitement for the game’s launch on the Xbox Series X|S while refusing to comment on their partners’ agreements with other platforms. The company reaffirmed its commitment to making Xbox the best platform for gamers, with great games at the core of this strategy.

Rumors of technical issues were further fueled by recent cases, such as Baldur’s Gate 3, whose Xbox version was delayed due to difficulties in optimizing the game for the Xbox Series S. But for Black Myth: Wukong, it seems the only reason for the delay is this exclusivity agreement with Sony.

The game has enjoyed massive success on Steam, with over 37 million concurrent players and 10 million copies sold in just three days. For now, the Xbox release date remains uncertain.
