A playable version of Call of Duty: Future Warfare has recently leaked online, more than 12 years after its cancellation by Activision. This game, initially developed by Neversoft—the studio famous for the Tony Hawk series—was meant to be a futuristic extension of the Call of Duty franchise.
The project, known internally as Future Warfare and codenamed NX1, aimed to immerse players in a sci-fi universe, featuring a campaign, a full multiplayer mode, and a zombies experience. However, the project was shelved before its release, leaving fans with little hope of ever seeing this concept come to life. But thanks to the recent leak, players now have a chance to explore what could have been a significant milestone in Call of Duty history.

How to Play Call of Duty: Future Warfare
If you’re curious about exploring this canceled game, you can play Call of Duty: Future Warfare on modified Xbox 360 consoles or via the Xenia Canary emulator. The game’s files are available online, but they require some technical adjustment to run correctly.
Although the game isn’t fully finished and has its fair share of imperfections, it offers a fascinating glimpse into what a 2012 Call of Duty could have been. Missions include battles on the Moon in spacesuits, an idea recycled later in Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Despite its unfinished state, Future Warfare intrigues fans, though it can’t compete with the current buzz around the beta of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Nevertheless, getting to play a long-lost game is a unique experience for die-hard fans of the series.
