Rockstar Games recently offered $7,500 to use the song “Temptation” by Heaven 17 in Grand Theft Auto 6. This information was revealed by Martyn Ware, a founding member of the band, who shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter).

Ware explained that he was contacted by his publishers on behalf of Rockstar Games about using their iconic song in GTA 6. While he expected a substantial offer, he was surprised to find out that the proposal was only $7,500—a one-time fee without any future royalties for the game’s revenue.

The offer pertained to this track by Heaven 17

Rockstar’s Offer for GTA 6 Music

According to Ware, the $7,500 offer was for a complete “buyout,” meaning Heaven 17 would not receive any future royalties, even if the game generates billions. For context, GTA 5 has generated over $8.6 billion since its release.

While Rockstar is famed for incorporating a variety of music into its games’ radio stations, the offer made to Heaven 17 has sparked debates about fair compensation for artists in video games. Many users on Reddit have also reacted, with some finding the offer reasonable for the exposure it could bring, while others deemed the deal a “daylight robbery.”

Online Discussions and Reactions to the Offer

This offer triggered lively discussions on online forums. While some Reddit users, like HomeInternational69, emphasized the benefit of reaching a wide audience, others, such as Aone, criticized Rockstar’s offer as insufficient, especially considering the billions GTA generates. Despite this potential “exposure,” Heaven 17 appears to have decided to decline the offer, choosing to focus on preserving their future rights.
