Gamers are fuming after Activision decided to block the highly anticipated H2M mod for Modern Warfare Remastered, sparking a wave of criticism on Steam. This decision, widely seen as anti-player, caught the Call of Duty PC community off guard.
The H2M mod, a passionate and completely free project, required the purchase of the base game to function. It was set to launch on Steam, but a cease and desist order issued by Activision ended the project just one day before its release. Before this, news of the revolutionary mod had boosted sales of Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam, placing it among the platform’s top sellers, years after its initial release.

The End of a Promising Project
This mod would have added Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer content to the remastered version of Modern Warfare, including maps, classic gameplay mechanics, and the original arsenal. It would have outshone what Activision offered with its remasters or new releases, featuring:
- Over 50 maps!
- New camouflages
- New killstreaks
- New accessories
- And much more
The group of modders announced the news on Twitter, stating: “Today, our members received a cease and desist order from Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project. We are complying with this order and immediately and permanently ceasing all operations.”
This announcement triggered a wave of anger and confusion within the Call of Duty community, including major competitive organizations like FaZe Clan, which expressed their dismay on Twitter:
We implore you to reconsider this decision @Activision. We have no involvement in this project apart from being huge fans. We were excited to produce an ILLCAMS on the H2M mod. Their team required the purchase of the original MW2 Remastered. This is a great tool to attract users/players to your product. This is harmless entertainment and an opportunity to strengthen the community. Call of Duty desperately needs this. Do what’s right and let the players play.
Gamers are Outraged by this Decision
Especially since Activision put Modern Warfare Remastered on sale in the days leading up to the mod’s release, driving even more sales before suddenly shutting down the H2M project. Reviews for the once-praised remaster are now “Extremely Negative” on Steam, with many players requesting refunds after the news. It appears Steam is accepting refunds beyond its usual policy if you mention that you bought the game for the mod.
