Valorant was in closed beta on Xbox, PS4, and PS5. It’s now official: the game went live on consoles on August 2 at 6 PM. Ranked matches are available right from the start, allowing PC and console players to face off in cross-platform battles.

Valorant is now accessible on Xbox, PS4, and PS5 by linking your Riot Games account to your console. This system allows you to keep your Valorant Points purchased on PC when you log into the game. Valorant will be playable only with a controller if you’re playing on a console. This decision was made by the Riot Games team:

You will only be able to play with a controller when playing on a console. We want players to feel that their experience is consistent no matter where they play, but we must ensure they feel like they’re playing the same game as the people they’re facing.

The official launch of Valorant on consoles surprised many, considering the game had a relatively short beta period. Its announcement coincided with the launch of other highly anticipated console FPS games like Marvel Rivals, FragPunk, and Concord. Riot’s team remains confident despite early technical problems reported within the first few hours of the game’s release.

A Blue Screen at Valorant’s Launch on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Ruins the Party

Game launches don’t always go as planned. Some early players of the console version of Valorant were completely blocked by a blue screen at the game’s launch.

No fix has been shared by Riot yet, but if you encounter the same issue, it’s advisable to update your console and controllers and to uninstall and reinstall the game (on PS4/5 or Xbox). Until Riot provides an official solution, these are standard troubleshooting steps.

Another Setback for Beta Players: Your Ranks Won’t Carry Over

Although ranked matches are now open on consoles, ranks have been reset for console ladders. As expected, linked accounts won’t retain ranking points or progression. This means you’ll need to redo your placements at the launch of the console version. But don’t worry, PC and console rankings are separate. Even though the game offers cross-platform play, the rankings will be independent. You won’t need to redo placements on PC.
